In the event of a premium increase, should it be only of 5 cents, the insurance companies should in theory warn you at least two months in advance (before October 31st, 2005) and inform you of your right to change insurers. If you wish to do so, the law says that you can do that until the end of the month following the increase notification. This means you must cancel your contract by registered mail which must be received by your current insurance company 30 days after reception of the increase notification at the latest. However, your company will ensure you until the end of the year. You will be ensured by your new insurance company as of January 1st, 2006. Since the insurance is obligatory, your former insurance company will require that you send a certificate before December 31st, 2005, certifying you are affiliated to another insurance company as of January 1st, 2006 (This certificate should be sent in theory by your new insurance company). |

The complementary insurances are ruled by another law, much more flexible but definitely less attractive for the policy-holder. The cancellation deadlines are often longer (up to 6 months) and, above all, premiums can vary according to the age, sex and health condition. Therefore, if you only subscribed to a compulsory health insurance, you can change every year, even every six-month period, without risk. But if you also subscribed to a complementary insurance, get some thorough information before cancelling it (reservations). However, note that you should be able to subscribe to the obligatory insurance with an insurance company, and to complementary insurances with another one (although some claim that jurisprudence is necessary to prove this legally).
